(Cameron ten Napel "ADR" session for A Christmas Snow)
Today we’re at Jim Stovall’s Narrative Television Network Studio in Tulsa, OK for ADR (Additional Dialogue Recording) or looping as it’s know to some people. What is that, you’re asking? Google it! Just kidding…
Sometimes on a set, a car drives by, clothes rustle, or some other audio interference makes the lines of an actor less than ideal. In those cases it’s necessary to get the actor or actress to re-record the lines for the film. This is what ADR or looping is. The actor watches the scene on a TV and then re-records their line to match their mouth in the scene. They also have to match the tone and intensity as well. Sometimes it’s easy and sometimes its trick, but with a cast like ours every time, it’s FUN!
Catherine Mary Stewart, Muse Watson, and Cameron ten Napel all came into town for the day to record some lines and as director and co-writer Tracy J Trost said it was like a Family Reunion. Composer Jason Moore brought in his mobile recording station and got the job done quickly. Hopefully in the weeks ahead I’ll have a quick video showing the process, but for now enjoy these pictures.
